Sean Wiswesser: Russian intelligence tradecraft and hybrid war

The talk will focus on Russian intelligence tradecraft, both historic and modern. It will be based on content from his book out with Naval Institute Press this spring: Tradecraft, Tactics, and Dirty tricks: Russian intelligence and Putin’s Secret War. The presentation will focus on Russian hybrid war in all its aspects, including sabotage, assassinations, active measures, cyber, and information warfare. Sean will discuss its doctrinal grounding in what Russians call ‘non-contact warfare’ and how the RIS’ roles complement those of the Russian armed forces, or in some cases, are meant to supplant them. His book focuses on 10 aspects of Russian intelligence tradecraft, both traditional ‘sticks and bricks’ as well as grey-zone, or what the Russians call ‘new generation warfare’. As a member of
