Date: Thu Oct 08 2026 00:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) at 14:00 - 16:00
Location: SG2, Alison Richard Building, 7 West Rd, CB3 9DP
About the event How can new data sources and innovative methods help us better understand elites and the reproduction of inequality? The Cambridge Inequality Lab: Caste and Data explores new ways to study how caste persists and adapts, while extending the frontiers of research on inequality in South Asia and beyond. In this opening session, we turn to the study of elites, bringing together scholars working with innovative data and methods to ask how elites can be identified, mapped, and understood. We will explore how researchers develop their questions and choose their data and methods, the challenges involved in collecting and analysing new forms of evidence, and how working with these data can reshape our understanding of elites.
