An event by the Studies in Arts, Migration and Aurality (SAMA) Research Network About this event Workshop with Bassel Hariri (Aleppo) Join us in Lecture Room 1 at the Faculty of Music for an interactive workshop and jam session with Bassel Hariri exploring the rich sonic world of Arab maqam through the violin. Drawing on his experience as a performer, improviser, and facilitator of international music-making communities, Bassel will introduce participants to the expressive language of maqam, demonstrating how melody, ornamentation, improvisation, and emotion come together in Arab musical practice. Through live performance, guided listening, discussion, and collaborative music-making, participants will have the opportunity to engage with maqam in both traditional and contemporary contexts.
